Lady Gaga announced that her fifth studio album Joanne will be arriving this fall. She spoke about the project today (September 15) on Zane Lowe’s Beats 1 Radio show.
The title has to do with her aunt, who died of lupus when Gaga was younger. “It happens to be my middle name,” she shared. “It’s all the toughness of the pain that happened as a result of losing her. She is the woman of my past that is becoming and helping me bring more of my honest woman self into the future.”
Gaga also said about the 11 songs that will appear on the album, “It’s just so personal. Every single song…every one of those is extremely autobiographical.” It may be autobiographical, but Gaga borrowed from a few different styles to stretch her musical muscles. She mentioned how one track has a Bollywood feel thanks to a sitar. Father John Misty, Beck and Florence + the Machine also collaborated on tracks.
As for her current single, “Perfect Illusion,” she teased that the video would be coming soon.
Joanne will drop October 21st.
